LO2: test plan

 Test plan

Test 1: make sure that the game can be exported correctly from unreal engine. This will take a lot of time which means that I will need to make sure that the game will be able to be exported correctly.

Test 2: make sure that the game will work with all of the required basic controls such as the movement and respawn system.

Tests:

Respawn

Start menu

Death sound

Background music

Movement system WASD

Jumping

Crouching

Checkpoints

Checkpoint visual

Pickup function

Pickup model

Pickup disappearing

Test 3: release a test version of the game to a player who can then test the game and report any known bugs and issues l. I will then be able to fix these. And then release the game with no issues.

After all of these tests I will be able to create a fully functional game that will appeal to the target audience.

LO2: Production Schedule

LO3: Adding Sound And Other Interesting Elements

Background Music:

For the sound in the game I used some basic sound from a ZapSplat this I then used some code to make the game play when the player clicks start on the main menu. This allows me to be able to make sure that the much only plays when the player is playing the game.

Sound Effects:

For the rest of the sound effect in the game I used a death sound that I imported and then coded to play every time that the player restarts (dies). This adds some more fun and entertainment into the game.

Visual Cue For Checkpoint:

Another feature that I decided to add was the use of a particle system that would allow the player to have a visual representation of when they had reached a checkpoint. I created a multicoloured system that provides a very clear indicator of when the player has reached a checkpoint.

LO2: How I Will Use Existing Game Concepts In My Game

I will take inspiration from a few different games these are:

Mario:

I have used the same kind of end goal that there is is the mario series of game although I have added new aspect to this genre. By using 3D models to enhance the player experience and allow me to use different kinds of ambience and lighting. I have also used the games use of simple music and sound effects for example when the player dies or starts the game.

Temple Run:

I have used a similar idea with the idea of a simple and repeating map that the player can navigate through. This allows the player to always have a new and interesting experience. Each time they play. I will also use the games use of repeating shapes and paths to create a easy replayable player experience.

UltraKill:

The inspiration that I have taken from this game is that taking and reproducing a similar movement system that allows the player to gradually build up speed as the player progresses throughout the level. This allows the player to have to maintain enough speed to make the jumps. This again adds another layer of difficulty to the game.

LO3: How The Game Is Entertaining

The game has many features that are found in most entertaining games. My game features some of these for example:

- A simple respawn system which will reset the player to the start of the level. It allows the player to easily replay the level. It adds a layer of repeatability to the game which allows me to create a more fun and interesting game.

- A checkpoint system that allows the player to respawn at their reached checkpoint as well as having a visual cue that shows when a player has reached the checkpoint. It allows the game to have much more interest because of the use of colours and lights to show checkpoints. This is a key component to most successful games such as Mario and Karlson.

- A simple pickup able item that spins around and disappears when the player makes contact with it. This adds some more interest and purpose to the game. The pickups-able item allows the player to have more of a goal when they are playing the game and it adds more of a narrative that allows the player to enjoy the game more.

- A character with animations that allow the player some visual cue for example running and jumping. This adds a visual element for the player to look at. It also helps with the scale of the game and the level. As well as providing a customisable in the future for differ player appearances.

- Sounds that play when the player dies or jumps as well as background music when playing through the level. The sounds add another level of detail to the game making the game better overall and creating a much better player experience. Almost all successful games have this because it adds a polish and sometimes the sound is integral e.g Piano Tiles, Just Dance.

All together these features allow the game to be much more entertaining for the player. Allowing me to make a much better player experience that will make more people play the game.

LO2: Asset List

The asset list contains all of the assets that are in the game such as the models and the sounds.

LO3: Opportunities For The Game Concept

The main opportunity for the game will be to use the base building blocks and the code that i have implemented and then use blender and maya to create animation for characters and models in the game. For example remaking the base models in the game to add some more detail.

I can also sell the finished game on a platform such as steam to people to make the game profitable. I can also sell the game to there game studios which they could then improve and work on in collaboration with me and turn the game into a much bigger project.

The game that I have made has all of the building blocks for me to add to for example the movement and the basic game systems to allow the game to become something more by adding custom made models animations and assets.

The game will not be able to be used in an animation or a tv show because of the simple style of the game and the characters and the lack of any kind of developed story that it within the game. For me to turn it into either of these things it would require a lot more narrative with a story as well as creating a lot more assets for the game.
